MARINE ENGINEER/NAVAL ARCHITECT 

We have an opportunity for a Marine Engineer/Naval Architect to join our team designing new boats.  Ideal candidate will design, develop, and take responsibility for the hull form, ship structures, propulsion, auxiliary power machinery, and other shipboard equipment and systems.  In addition, this position will also write and track correspondence with certification agencies such as the LR, ABS RINA, as well as vendor correspondence.

 

Primary Job Duties:

-Design and prepare complete and accurate working plans, charts, scale drawings and revisions

 

-Apply engineering drafting methods and procedures with the operation and application of computer-aided

design equipment  (CAD)  and software

 

-Create 3-D computer models of solids and surfaces of products

 

-Develop detailed 2-D construction drawings showing arrangements, installation and alignment details for

boats and their systems

 

-Design parts or marine systems compliant with relevant applicable codes and standard industry practices

 

-When required, oversee testing, installation, and repair of marine apparatus and equipment

 

-Conduct analytical, environmental, operation or performance studies in order to develop designs for

products such as marine engines, equipment, and structures

 

-Prepare, or direct the preparation of, product or system layouts and detailed 3D models, 2D drawings and

schematics as required

-Analyze data in order to determine feasibility of product proposals

 

-Confer with research or production personnel in order to clarify or resolve problems, and to develop or

modify designs

 

-Investigate and observe tests on machinery and equipment for compliance with standards, if required

 

-Prepare technical reports for use by engineering, management, and / or production personnel

 

-Prepare plans, estimates, design and construction schedules, and contract specifications, including any special provisions

  

Required Training and Experience: 

-Current working knowledge of applicable boat design standards such as ABYC and Recreational Craft

Directive ISO standards required.

 

-Basic Knowledge of 3D modeling in Siemens NX (Unigraphics) is a plus

 

-Working knowledge of 2D drafting in AutoCAD LT is a big plus (almost required)

 

-Basic working knowledge of 3D manipulation in Rhinoceros is a plus.

 

-Fluency working with blueprints, schematics, sketches is required

 

-Entry level candidate with an engineering degree will be considered

  

Physical Requirements:

Able to wear protective eyewear and work in a non-climate controlled environment as needed when job duties require a visit to the shop floor; able to work in a non-climate controlled environment.
